Breast Augmentation surgery is one of the most common cosmetic procedures performed today. Women who choose to have breast augmentation surgery may do so to improve their self image, to achieve better proportions with waist and hips, to balance breasts that may be asymmetrical or to restore natural breast volume which may have decreased as a result of pregnancy, weight loss or aging.
There are two types of implants used: saline or silicone. Saline implants are filled with a simple salt water solution which mimics the body’s natural fluids. Silicone implants, pre-filled with soft silicone, feel much like natural breast tissue. There are several options as to size and shape that we will discuss with you. Each patient is unique and individual in their physical makeup; our goal is to help you find the implant that will give you your desired results. Breast augmentation is performed as an outpatient surgery. Incisions are small and are usually made in one of three locations; underneath the breast just above the crease; around the lower edge of the areola; or within the armpit. A pocket is made either under or over the muscles into which the implant is inserted.
It is a good idea to have someone stay with you to help out for the first 24 hours. After the procedure, within a day or two, you should be up and around. Most of the discomfort that you feel can be controlled with the medication prescribed. Patients generally are able to return to work within one to two weeks depending on the demands of their employment. The best way to get complete answers to specific questions that relate to your individual needs is to have a personal consultation with Dr. Sellers and his experienced staff.
