Breast Lift

For many women, the size, shape and contour of their breasts are of particular importance to their confidence and self esteem. Women are often disturbed by sagging or loose breasts as a result of pregnancy, weight loss, or natural aging. Problems such as these can be helped markedly by a surgical technique called a breast lift or mastopexy. This procedure is designed to elevate and reshape the breast and put the nipple back to the correct position on the breast mound. The size of the areola (the dark, pink skin circling the nipple) can also be reduced through this procedure. Mastopexy is often performed in conjunction with a breast augmentation.

Incisions for a breast lift are usually made around the areola and then vertically from the nipple to the inframammary line (the line where the breast meets the chest wall and along the inframmary line). From these incisions Dr. Sellers is able to reshape and lift the breast. If only a small amount of lift is necessary it is possible that the only incision needed may the one surrounding the areola.  If augmentation is desired an implant can be inserted under the newly positioned breast.

A breast lift is usually performed as an outpatient  procedure in a hospital or surgery center under general anesthesia.  Pain is minimal to moderate and is controlled with oral medication.  Dr. Sellers will determine when normal activities can be resumed; however, strenuous activities must be avoided for several weeks. You should be able to resume working within a week or two. Scars from the incisions, although permanent, will fade significantly in time and are well camouflaged in natural lines.

Most women who have this procedure are thrilled with their new, younger looking “perkier” breasts.
